Week in Review: Accomplishments and Progress
2025 Road Program
The contractor completed asphalt surface removal across all project limits. The first layer of asphalt was paved on Atkinson Road and Center Street and striped with temporary paint. Pavement patching has been completed throughout the project area.
Increte removal was finalized on Center Street, with intersections paved in hot-mix asphalt binder to within two inches of final grade.
North Alley Utility Burial
Crews saw cut all secondary service trenches and hydro excavated all gas services crossing the trench lines. Asphalt removal began along the proposed alignment.
2025 North Alley Streetscape and Parking Lot Improvements
Fence walls have been installed on the trailer enclosure behind The Freeze.
Looking Ahead: Planned Activities
Next week, Canadian National is scheduled to complete track repairs at the Center Street railroad crossing. Milling and paving work is expected to begin at both the Grayslake Feed Store and United Protestant Church parking lots. Streets at the southern end of the project area are scheduled for tack coat application and leveling binder placement.
Underground utility structures are anticipated to be reinstalled, and new traffic signal detector loops are expected to be installed on Center Street and Atkinson Road. Additional crosswalk removals are planned for Whitney Street and Seymour Avenue.
In the North Alley, trench excavation between pedestals and individual services is anticipated to begin on the west end. If delayed due to soil testing, crews may instead begin conduit installation on adjacent buildings.
Community Impact: What to Expect
As work continues in the North Alley, the Slusser Street exit will be closed periodically, with traffic being redirected to Hawley Street as necessary.
Construction signage has been placed in the downtown area for the 2025 Road Program. As part of the Road Program, Pace Bus Route 570 will be rerouted, see here for more information.
Residents, patrons, and visitors are encouraged to exercise caution and be aware of signage and flaggers identifying changes in vehicle and pedestrian traffic within the project area. Please watch for construction signage, follow all posted traffic control measures, and visit this website for weekly updates throughout the duration of the project.
